"Materialists" Hits a $85 Million dollar Milestone While "Weapons" is a Box office Juggerknot in Under 3 Weeks

The horror thriller Weapons is on the verge of smashing through the $200 million milestone at the worldwide box office, with current earnings standing at $199.4 million.
This past weekend alone, the R-rated film scared up another $13.2 million across 74 international markets, bringing its overseas haul to $83 million after just three weeks in theaters. Domestically, audiences have contributed $115.9 million so far, with the United Kingdom ($11 million), Mexico ($7.5 million), and France ($5.6 million) leading the charge overseas. Considering Warner Bros. only spent $38 million to make the movie, these returns mark an impressive win for an original horror story.
And yet, Weapons isn’t the only Warner Bros. title making headlines. The studio has two other heavy-hitters dominating global charts: Superman and F1: The Movie, both of which recently crossed the $600 million threshold worldwide. Out of all the films released this year, only six have managed to climb past that mark.
Superman has found the bulk of its audience in North America, raking in $347 million domestically for a global total of $604.5 million in just seven weeks. Meanwhile, F1 has been firing on all cylinders internationally, with a massive $417 million earned overseas and $603.4 million overall after nine weeks of release. Neither film was a guaranteed smash — Superman marks DC’s first real breakthrough with fans in quite some time, while F1 proved that an adult-driven drama, not tied to an existing franchise, could still pack theaters.
On the indie side of the spectrum, Celine Song’s Materialists continues to defy expectations. The romantic dramedy brought in another $6.2 million across 57 countries this weekend, lifting its international total to $48.6 million and its global earnings to $85.1 million. With a modest $20 million budget from A24 and distribution abroad handled by Sony, the film has turned into one of 2025’s surprise sleeper hits. Starring Dakota Johnson, Pedro Pascal, and Chris Evans, Materialists tells the story of a New York matchmaker caught in a tug-of-war between her wealthy new suitor and her ex. The movie has ignited plenty of heated online conversations, a factor that seems to be fueling its staying power both at home and abroad.
