Krysten Ritter Returns as Jessica Jones in "Daredevil: Born Again" Now Officially in the MCU

Marvel fans, rejoice—Krysten Ritter is once again stepping into the boots of the tough, whiskey-loving private eye Jessica Jones. The fan-favorite character is making her official return, this time as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The news broke during Disney’s major upfronts event in New York, where Ritter appeared on stage alongside Charlie Cox, star of Daredevil: Born Again. Together, they revealed that Jessica Jones will join Daredevil for its second season on Disney+.

“I’m beyond thrilled to dive back into Jessica’s world,” Ritter told the crowd. “After three seasons and The Defenders, coming back now—especially as part of the MCU—is surreal. I can’t say much, but let’s just say Jessica’s story is far from over. This season’s going to blow people away.”

Ritter originally brought the gritty, no-nonsense hero to life in Netflix’s Jessica Jones, which premiered in 2015. That series was part of a larger slate of Marvel shows exclusive to Netflix, including Daredevil, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher, and the crossover event The Defenders. Jessica Jones wrapped up after three acclaimed seasons, ending in 2019 when Netflix’s Marvel lineup was scrapped as Disney pivoted toward building its own Marvel TV universe on Disney+.

Ritter earned high praise for her portrayal of Jones, a superpowered woman with a traumatic past and a talent for detective work. Though she once tried and failed to be a traditional superhero, Jessica found her true calling investigating the dark underbelly of New York City.

Complicating matters at the time was a contract clause between Marvel and Netflix that blocked characters from jumping to other platforms or projects for two years after cancellation. But that restriction has since expired—and now, Marvel is seizing the opportunity.

Disney’s full revival is well underway, with Daredevil: Born Again officially arriving on Disney+ in March 2025. The show reunites Cox with Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin and also sees the return of Jon Bernthal’s Punisher. With Ritter back in the fold, Season 2 of Born Again promises to bring even more grit, power, and intrigue to the MCU’s growing street-level saga.
