Global Box Office Roars as Lilo & Stitch and Mission: Impossible Spark Worldwide Movie Frenzy

Hold onto your popcorn — the international box office is buzzing this weekend thanks to two cinematic heavyweights lighting up theaters across the globe.
First up, Disney’s Lilo & Stitch live-action remake is making waves. A fresh take on the beloved 2002 animated hit, this film began rolling out midweek and is already enchanting audiences in 50 international territories. In just three days, it’s raked in a jaw-dropping $56.3 million overseas.
What’s particularly impressive? Stitch didn’t even need a holiday boost. Yet, the movie scored the biggest opening days of 2025 in several major countries — including France, Germany, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, and Spain. With weekend crowds just getting started, the momentum shows no signs of slowing.
Early estimates suggest the film will blast past initial projections. Combining international and domestic receipts, the adorable alien’s grand return has already tallied an impressive $111.3 million globally.
So far, Stitch's top-performing countries include:
Mexico: $9.4M
United Kingdom: $4.2M
France: $4.1M
Italy: $3.8M
Brazil: $3.7M
Germany: $2.5M
Central America: $2.2M
China: $2M (totaling $5.7M through Saturday)
Spain: $2M
But Stitch isn’t the only star blasting off.
Also flexing serious box office muscle is Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, featuring Tom Cruise in yet another adrenaline-charged installment of the beloved spy saga. Directed by Christopher McQuarrie, the high-octane thriller has surged to $75.9 million from 64 international markets — and that’s just through Friday.
With extended sneak previews rolled out early, the film is currently outpacing its 2023 predecessor by 8% at the same point in release. Factoring in U.S. earnings, the worldwide total now stands at $100.7 million.
Top international territories for Ethan Hunt’s latest mission include:
South Korea: $8.9M
Japan: $6.5M
Australia: $5.4M
United Kingdom: $5M
France: $3.9M
Germany: $3.6M
Mexico: $1.9M
Brazil: $1.5M
Spain: $570K
Now, don’t mistake this for a head-to-head competition. There’s no rivalry here — just cinematic magic. Both blockbusters are winning over critics and audiences alike, giving theaters a much-needed jolt of energy and excitement. It’s the kind of weekend that moviegoers dream of and a perfect kickoff to the summer season.
