Dinosaurs Roar Back in Jurassic World: Rebirth, Eyeing Monsters $135M+ Debut

Universal is gearing up for a prehistoric power play at the box office with Jurassic World: Rebirth, the latest entry in the dino-saga featuring Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey. Early forecasts suggest a colossal 5-day launch, with ticket sales expected to land between $115 million and $135 million—an explosive return to form for the franchise.
This marks only the second time a Jurassic film has opened midweek, following Jurassic Park III's Wednesday bow in 2001, which brought in $85 million by Sunday. Rebirth looks to stomp well past that milestone, driven by strong enthusiasm from both male and female audiences. Notably, younger viewers—especially men under 25—are leading the charge in pre-release buzz.
Though slightly trailing behind Jurassic World: Dominion’s $145 million launch in 2022, Rebirth is still early in its promotional cycle and could easily pick up steam. Remember, Dominion, filmed during the pandemic, still managed a staggering $1 billion globally and $376.8 million domestically. Expectations are high that Rebirth could follow suit—or even surpass it.
The film sees the return of screenwriter David Koepp, the original mind behind the first Jurassic Park adaptation, and brings in Gareth Edwards (Rogue One, Godzilla) to direct. This latest adventure is set five years after Dominion, following a daring expedition to a remote, equatorial zone to retrieve ancient DNA from three towering dinosaur species—an operation that may hold the key to a revolutionary medical discovery.
If Rebirth manages to capture even a fraction of the excitement from the 2015 Jurassic World reboot—which opened to a thunderous $208.8 million and remains Universal’s biggest opener ever—it could reshape the summer blockbuster landscape. That film still reigns as the franchise’s top earner and one of the highest-grossing movies of all time with a massive $1.67 billion haul.
Altogether, the Jurassic World series has raked in $6 billion across six films, not including mountains of merchandise and licensing gold.
Rebirth stomps into theaters just after Universal/Blumhouse’s M3GAN 2.0 and Apple/Warner Bros.’ high-octane racer F1, both of which are chasing $30 million launches of their own on June 27. But the real heavyweight this summer might just be the return of the dinosaurs.
